My mother and I have gone to Georgia for two and a half weeks. Here are our daily adventures.
Day 1
The Amsterdam Airport Adventure
There's a surprisingly large amount of attractive people in Amsterdam. I saw a lot of them as my mother and I rushed back and forth between the different gates. See, in our instructions listed on the piece of paper that explained how connecting flights work, we were told to go to a gate and find a kindly person who could help us. So, as we landed in Amsterdam, we approached the kindliest woman in uniform who told us to go to E4. Once we got there, we were told to go to a different gate. This repeated about four times. The fact that most of the officers couldn't pronounce 'Tbilisi' did not do much to raise our spirits. However, we finally found the right gate. It had a sign saying that the flight for Tbilisi was there and it had computers. It however, did not have any personnel. I don't understand how my mother and I always wind up having these adventures. After much nervous waiting, the right people showed up and the line started and then I had another adventure during security!
The Bodyscanner Adventure!
This one only lasted three seconds. I left feeling slightly radiated and pretty happy because it made a whoosh sound. I know people say that maybe its creepy that people look at blurry outlines of other people and maybe those are sexy outlines, but honestly I don't see the big deal because it takes three seconds and then you're free and go away and forget about all of it.
Tbilisi from above
So, I'm pretty chill about landscapes. I don't really get that excited about a mountain because in the end it's just a pile of rock and dirt and the occasional moose. However, when I looked down at Georgia from above, I was breathtaking. I didn't even want to talk, because that would ruin the moment. The sprawling hills, rough and unhewn, the river Kura, all looked as if a child had been playing in the dirt. The river looked exactly as if a giant finger traced it. As I looked, I knew that I could fall in love with this rough and untamed landscape. Even the city looked haphazard and sprawled out, like an exhausted wanderer would fall to the ground, loving it and clinging to it, knowing that it doesn't quite belong, but loving the earth for holding it just the same. I've always had a soft spot for the rough and unhewn. An image of a face I knew came to my mind when I saw Georgia. It was a face as if carved from a cliff, rough but beautiful in its wildness. As I gazed upon the face of Georgia; I knew two things. One-day that I would love the country, and two- that I was getting really loopy from sleep dep.
